Wine Tasting for Komen

Taste wine and nibble yummy restaurant appetizers  – while raising dollars for the Komen Orange County Race for the Cure. Talk about a win-win! There are a few $35 tickets remaining for a Wine Tasting Benefit on Tuesday, October 6, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.

The wines to be tasted are from Fleming Jenkins Vineyards, founded by Olympian Peggy Fleming and her husband. Peggy, who won Olympic gold in 1968 for women’s figure skating, is a breast cancer survivor who champions the importance of early detection. (Always a high scorer herself, her 2007 Chardonnay scored 93 points by the Wine Enthusiast.)

The event is the smart idea of Race for the Cure team “Think Pink” #2231, and the profits from the wine tasting will be donated to Komen Orange County in support of their team. The Wine Tasting Benefit will be at The Rooftop Sky Garden, 3161 Michelson Avenue, in Irvine. For tickets, contact Gail Ross or Annalyn Goodwin at 949-451-3800.

Race Teams and individuals have until October 16 to raise pledge dollars for awards and incentive prizes. Don’t stop now!

Got Pink? Be Educated

Welcome to October! At Komen for the Cure we celebrate with PINK for Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Except for skin cancers, breast cancer is the most common cancer in women, but it can be successfully treated. Screening tests can find cancer early, when it’s most treatable. Susan G. Komen for the Cure recommends that you:

  •  know your risk
  •  get screened
  • know what is normal for you
  • make healthy lifestyle choices

Information about breast cancer is available at www.komen.org. Please visit the section on Understanding Breast Cancer — take the time to educate yourself, to know what to do when a friend is diagnosed or to be inspired by survivor stories. Learn by watching the videos. Just learn, so you can take care of yourself.

If you want to speak with someone, 1-877 GO KOMEN (1-877-465-6636) is the resource for any and all things relating to breast health, breast cancer and Susan G. Komen for the Cure.

Message to the Governor

Komen Advocates at Race for the Cure

Komen Advocates at Race for the Cure

Thank you to everyone who signed the SB161 Oral Cancer Drug petition sent to Gov. Schwarzenegger.  Through our efforts at the Race Registration Suite at Fashion Island and at Race for the Cure we were able to send the names of 1,552 people who are sending a message for him not to veto this critically important bill for cancer patients.  We will continue to monitor the governor’s position on this bill and will inform you of the final outcome.

Congratulations to Rhonda Hammond of Anaheim who won the beautiful Mobile Edge bag offered as an incentive at the Advocacy Alliance Booth at the Fashion Island suite.
