Komen OC receives Walter B. Gerken Community Service Award

Jim Morris (Chairman, Pacific Life Foundation), Nancy Enomoto (Board Secretary, Komen OC), Chris Tannous (Board President, Komen OC) and Bob Haskell (President, Pacific Life Foundation) at the Pacific Life Foundation grants reception on Jan. 24.

At its annual grants reception on Jan. 24, the Pacific Life Foundation awarded the Walter B. Gerken Community Service Award, as well as a $25,000 grant, to the Orange County Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure. Komen OC board president Chris Tannous and board secretary Nancy Enomoto proudly accepted the honor on behalf of the organization.

Named after the founding chairman of the Pacific Life Foundation, the award is given annually to an organization that shares Gerken’s philanthropic commitment to the betterment of society and the encouragement of community service. Beneficiaries must also have a history or partnership with the Foundation or company.

In 1992, the Foundation hosted the inaugural Race for the Cure on its premises in Newport Beach. In the years since, the Foundation has remained involved in Komen’s efforts to end breast cancer, presenting grants and in-kind donations, as well as continuing to host the Race and provide volunteers through the Pacific Life Good Guys Program. This year’s 20th annual Race for the Cure will be held Sept. 25, 2011.
