Red, White and Greens

RWG 10 year

The 10th annual Reds, Whites and Greens Golf Tournament was held Monday, July 23 at the Strawberry Farms Golf Course in Irvine.

Two time breast cancer survivor and founder of the tournament, Cindy Thomsen, presented Komen OC with a check in the amount of  $130,198 raised from this year’s tournament. In the past 10 years Thomsen has raised a total of $1,361,720.

The event featured a 4-person-scramble golf tournament, “Around-the-World” wine tasting and food every three holes, an opportunity to sip wine with LPGA Players, and silent and live auctions with more than 200 bottles of fine wine, golf travel and merchandise, vacation packages and more. Prizes were awarded for longest drives, closest to the pins and low gross winners.

Thank you Cindy Thomsen for your hard work and charitable donation.

Team Captains Ready to Race

On Tuesday, June 19, Susan G. Komen Orange County hosted team captains at the Race for the Cure Team Captain Kickoffs. As teams helped raise about 50 percent of the 2011 Race for the Cure’s revenue, group efforts are key in the organization’s goal of serving women and saving lives.

Two kickoff events, one at noon and one in the evening, allowed captains to not only learn more about the Race for the Cure and understand the impact of donations, but also share ideas to fundraise. From simple conversation to using a jar to collect change, these teams are inspiring one another and others in the community in the fight to end breast cancer forever. Team captains also received brochures and other collateral in order to spread the breast health mission and to create more buzz about their own teams.

It’s never too late to sign up your team for this year’s Race! Early bird registration is still available for a discounted rate of $30 and fees will go up June 30.

The next Team Captain Kickoffs are:

  • July 26, 12 p.m. or 6 p.m., at the Komen Orange County Office
  • August 25, 10 a.m., at the South Coast Collection Registration Suite

To reserve your spot for one of those dates, email teams@komenoc.org.

The 2012 Susan G. Komen Orange County Race for the Cure Registration is Now Open!

Registration is now open for the 2012 Susan G. Komen Orange County Race for the Cure, taking place at Fashion Island in Newport Beach on Saturday, Sept. 23. Every year, thousands of breast cancer survivors and supporters come together to participate in the 5K run and walk which raises funds to provide breast cancer treatment, prevention programs and further breast cancer research for Orange County women in need.

This year, we’ve introduced a new runner’s start time for the first 5K at 7:15 a.m. Other 5K run/walk times are at 7:30 a.m. and 9:45 a.m., with a one-mile fun walk at 8 a.m.

Early bird registration is available for a discounted rate of $30 and fees will go up June 30. In hopes of surpassing our fundraising goals, we are encouraging all participants to take part in the 125 Fundraising Challenge, a call-to-action for all of those who register to raise at least $125—the cost of a Komen-funded mammogram.
