Last week, we held a private reception to honor Race teams who collectively raised more than $765,000 at the 2014 Race for the Cure in Newport Beach. We invited team captains, co-captains and their teammates to join us for a special evening in Newport Beach to thank them for their dedication and ongoing support to Komen OC’s mission. We handed out special awards to the teams that raised the most money (Bank of America/Merrill Lynch), had the most team members (CHASE for the Cure) and had the highest fundraising rookie team (Sparkle Shine Survive!, award sponsored by Angels Baseball).
2014 Race Chair, Doug McKay, attended the event to thank the teams for working so hard to make this year’s Race for the Cure a great success. Teams were also given awards by categories including Top 3 Large Corporate Teams, Top 3 Small Corporate Teams and Top 3 Nonprofit Teams. Each team received a commemorative plaque.
Race teams make up nearly 40 percent of the funds raised from the 2014 Race for the Cure. This money goes directly towards providing no-cost mammograms, urgent diagnosis, breast health education and outreach in Orange County and groundbreaking breast cancer research to find a cure.
